This accessible region has a mix of experiences, especially good for exploring by car or helicopter. Drive to the rugged Castlepoint Beach to see the fur seals and dolphins and take a walk to the lighthouse, or go to the southernmost tip of the North Island, to Cape Palliser which also has a historic and photographic 1897 lighthouse. Either is lovely with a picnic of local wines and produce.
When travelling in the region, visit the two historic villages of Martinborough and Greytown and the conservation centre (Puhaka Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre) to see endangered species being bred, protected and returned to the wild. This promises to be an incredibly uplifting and educational visit.
